So I got a nice little "Uh oh" this morning as I scanned through my Hotmail account. An email from TurboTax with the subject line: "TurboTax Protects Your Privacy". My first thought: oh s&%@. Someone hacked into TurboTax, may have got my information and now, even something as simple as filling out my taxes online has now been comprimised. Awesome.

Thankfully, I way off. Here's the email:

So the only reason I got this email was because my email is registered and they're assuring me that they won't sell my address or share it? I understand this is part of the GLB act, but I'm confused: why is this necessary to tell their customer base months, if not years, after they have signed on that their info is still safe? Are we to assume that eventually, it won't be and they'll change their minds?

I think some things cause needless clutter or concern. If I give my email and am told upon supplying it that I can be rest assured that its safe, then that's all I need to know. I should never, ever have to worry about this again and if this strictly being enforced by an act that most people probably aren't aware of, I think it's time for a rewrite.
