Email Service Providers firmly attached to social media marketing

Posted on Friday, May 29, 2009 by Josh

Some light numbers for you on a Friday afternoon...

Our intern Emily was hard at work this week doing some investigation into U.S. based email service providers (like us!) and how our industry uses social media to push their brands. Here's a look at what she found, based on 65 companies.

  • First, there are 65 companies that list themselves as ESPs on the Email Marketer's Club wiki page. (Wow..that seems like a lot. I'm sure there are some smaller shops that use technologies from others on the list, but still, 65 of us?)
  • 81.5% (53) have a Twitter feed.
  • 69% (45) have pages on Facebook.
  • 12 ESPs use neither.

I'm not really surprised by the numbers above, but it certainly adds more chatter into the already cluttered interweb when it comes to email marketing - especially with the entire blogosphere and individual email marketers adding to the mix as well. Social media isn't going away, my friends, and can be a valuable part of your marketing mix...if you use it correctly and smartly.

Make sure you're friends with us and following us to see how we're doing!
